Woodworking Planshow to Woodworking Plans for Bring Back the Trades Scholarship

Scholarship Details & Requirements:

Bring Back the Trades gives away one scholarship per month during the school year to an eligible applicant. Applications are accepted from the first day of the month until midnight est on the last day of the month. Winners are chosen the first day of the following month.

The requirements for the scholarship are as follows:

  • Applicants must either be a current student in a trade school or enrolled to start in 2019/2020.

  • The applicants can be from anywhere in the United States.

  • Applicants can be of ANY age.

  • Applicants must submit an essay by the monthly deadline to be considered.

  • The essay should explain why you are going into the trade of your choice and why you could use the money.

Ronald Reeves Job Readiness Training Grant

Woodworking Planshow to Woodworking Plans for The Lenawee County Education Foundation (LCEF) announces a new grant available to Lenawee County residents seeking to obtain training for a job or bettering their current job or obtaining a General Education Degree (GED). The grant, titled the Ronald Reeves Job Readiness Training Grant, will cover up to half the cost of the course work, not to exceed $1000. Grant applicants must be a high school graduate or completing their GED and must be a resident of Lenawee County.

This grant must be used toward the completion of post-secondary training or a GED. This training must take place at an accredited or certified trades or vocational education program. The grant is an annual reward and may be reapplied for each year.

Woodworking Planshow to Woodworking Plans for If awarded a grant, recipients are encouraged to participate in the annual scholarship reception, where all recipients will be publicly recognized. Michigan is home to approximately 1.3 million individuals with disabilities. Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) provides specialized employment and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed or retaining employment. In addition, MRS partners and collaborates with the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute to help students with disabilities succeed in woodworking training and transition to employment.  MRS works in partnership with individuals with disabilities to achieve independence and prepare for and obtain competitive employment, including exploring the possibilities of self-employment or owning a small business.

Linked Lenawee is a free adult education and training program designed to meet the need for skilled workers in our region. Linked Lenawee allows students who are enrolled in a completion program for a high school diploma or GED to receive hands-on, vocational training at no cost. Students can earn industry credentials for in-demand industries and positions. Students will also develop employability skills like the 1 last update 2020/06/05 dependability, communication, and professionalism.Linked Lenawee is a free adult education and training program designed to meet the need for skilled workers in our region. Linked Lenawee allows students who are enrolled in a completion program for a high school diploma or GED to receive hands-on, vocational training at no cost. Students can earn industry credentials for in-demand industries and positions. Students will also develop employability skills like dependability, communication, and professionalism.

Eligible student participation in the career and technical program will be at no cost to the student, as program tuition is paid for by a grant from the Michigan Talent Investment Agency. Participating students will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials while receiving support and guidance from representatives of Michigan Works! Southeast and Lenawee Now.

Our goal is to build a credentialed and accredited work force through vocational skill based job training for the woodworking manufacturing and construction industry. Through the Woodworking Career Alliance of North America, we offer training and certification for a unified set of skill standards. These skill are recorded through the Sam Beauford Woodshop Institute WCA Passport Program.

       I.          Participants will receive an accredited skills passport

This passport works as a transcript that is recognized by thousands of employers all over the United States. Each new machine certification that is achieved gets recorded in a digital transcript. Students earn patches and certificates as more skills are earned.

     II.          Participants will design and successfully complete an ambitious project

Students will propose a project to be approved by the instructor. This project must utilize all the skills that are taught during the six-week course. Project must have a high difficulty level. Students will be allowed lab hours to be arranged with the instructor.

   III.          Participants will earn industry recognized certification

Upon receiving these credentials, participants of the program will greatly increase earning power. With new found confidence students will have credentialed and marketable skills that can be taken into the workforce. These skill are not only valuable in the construction and woodworking field, but can also transfer to many other area of industry.
